BSkyB saw its net subscriber figure rise by 90,000 in the quarter to June 30, bringing the total to 8.582 million, or 17% more than in the corresponding period last year. Its Sky+ household total meanwhile rose in the quarter by 207,000 to reach 2.374 million, or 28% of the base, and multiroom households increased by 46,000 to 1.343 million. Although the take-up of HD services was encouraging – 48,000 subscribers were added in the quarter, bringing the total to 292,000 – the real driver was Sky Broadband. The three months to June 30 saw an additional 259,000 customers sign up to the service, thereby increasing total take-up by 56.6% to 716,000.
