Gazprom Media is understood to be preparing to invest in RuTube, the Russian equivalent of YouTube. According to a local report, the group is willing to spend up to $10 million (€7.34 million) on what would be its first foray into the Internet sector. RuTube is currently owned by its founders Oleg Volobuev and Mikhail Paulkin and receives 150,000 hits a day. Gazprom Media, whose other interests include the DTH platform NTV-Plus, in believed to have already allocated $100 million for investments in the Internet in 2008.
