The German state of Bavaria is planning to abolish the special state tax on cable households. Until now, cable subscribers have paid a monthly surcharge of €0.45, which is used to fund local broadcasters in the state. A majority in the state parliament (Bayerischen Landtag) is now in favour of funding the stations directly out of tax money. A plan to slap a tax of €0.30 a month on all television households, including DTH and DTT homes, was rejected.
