Rupert Murdoch has held talks with the Polish Prime Minister Jaroslaw Kaczynski and visited TV Puls, a regional station backed by News Corp. There is speculation that News Corp. may be granted additional frequencies – it currently only reaches around 16% of TV households terrestrially – that were only due to be released following Poland’s transition from analogue to digital broadcasting. Such a move would allow TV Puls to compete more effectively with Polsat and TVN and is likely to be opposed by the latter. News Corp. bought into TV Puls in June 2006 and has since managed to have the terms of the station’s licence changed. It was previously religious-oriented but now offers a broad spectrum of programming.
