Globecast has purchased a further transponder on the Eutelsat Eurobird satellite that shares the 28.2 degrees East orbital slot for the UK market. Juliet Bayliss, GlobeCast UK’s Director for Broadcast Services, Globecast Northern Europe told Broadband TV News that clients had already been lined up for the 72 MHz capacity and these would be announced in the next few weeks. “Every year we have added transponders and you just seem to fill them with a steady flow of channels that want to launch,” she said.
The capacity previously belonged to SES-Astra, which will shortly move its own Astra 2C satellite from 19 degrees East to bolster UK capacity.
Recent additions to the Globecast portfolio are Living in Spain and Horse and Country TV, both of which have taken advantage of the France Telecom-owned company’s new playout facility at Gray’s Inn Road, London.
