French cable operator Noos Numéricâble has secured the rights to the second tier of French football (Ligue 2). Last Friday the French football association (Conseil d’Administration de la LFP), which convened in the city of Metz, announced it had awarded the rights to Ypso France, who owns the cable operators Numericable, Noos, EstVidéo and Coditel.
The operator secured the rights for three seasons for €15 million. It is the first time French cable operators have acquired exclusive rights; so far the football rights have been divided between Canal+ and TPS, but since the merger there
has been some concern there would be no competition between platforms. The Ligue 1 rights will become available this November.
