Finland’s YLE has launched a new online portal that will make available for download the majority of the public broadcaster’s TV and radio programmes. YLE Areena brings together all of the downloadable content from the YLE website also includes live streaming of YLE’s eight national radio channels.
“The way Finns use the media is changing and YLE’s job is to meet these new challenges. People will now also be getting extensive value for money for the television fee in an online environment,” says director of programming, Ville Vilén.
Around 400 programmes will be available and the content will be regularly refreshed. Copyright agreements will restrict the length of time for which individual programmes will be made available. Programmes have been divided into ten genre specific categories: news, sport, current affairs, factual programmes, learning and science, culture, music, entertainment, drama and children.
Some live programming will be included and a selected number of programmes will be available ahead of broadcast.
