P&TLuxembourg is to launch an IPTV service before the year-end. Thomson announced that P&TLuxembourg, the country’s incumbent telecoms operator, has selected Thomson’s SmartVisionTV platform to launch its IPTV service. Using Thomson’s systems, P&TLuxembourg will be able to launch a full range of live and on-demand interactive video services over broadband to its customers at the end of 2007.
“P&TLuxembourg decided on the Thomson IPTV platform because of the maturity, scalability, and the standards-based openness of the SmartVisionTV ecosystem, said, Cliff Konsbruck, Head of Internet Services for P&TLuxembourg in a press release. “Thomson’s SmartVisionTV video service platforms already have a number of successful field proven deployments in projects of all sizes and, due to its open architecture, is much easier to integrate than a vertically integrated solution.”
P&TLuxembourg’s customers will have access to approximately 80 live TV channels, several pay-TV bouquets, video on demand services, as well as advanced features such as a personal video recorder, catch-up TV and electronic programme guide. The SmartVisionTV platform also allows P&TLuxembourg to provide the new service in three different languages meeting the country’s multilingual needs.
