Spanish DTH platform Digital+ has signed a new agreement with Hispasat to jointly market satellite television in the country.
Digital+ was formed in July 2003 from the merger of Sogecable’s Canal Satelite Digital and Via Digital, which used the Astra and Hispasat satellites respectively. The merged company subsequently signed an agreement to continue to use Hispasat, but also renewed its contract with Astra.
Subsequently new installations have been to both satellites. Broadband TV News understands that in the first half of 2006, the majority of new installs were to Astra, but in the second half the position was reversed.
The new agreement between Digital+ and Hispasat includes a series of joint marketing initiatives and promotions aimed at Spain’s satellite installers. It will focus on the country’s many thousand communal antenna systems.
