Deutsche Telekom has confirmed that it has sold its Spanish operation Ya.com to France Telecom in a transaction that also sees the purchase of the French company’s broadband unit Orange Netherlands.
Telekom confirmed the sale price of Ya.com as €320 million. The amount paid for Orange was not confirmed, though Dow Jones has reported a figure of €1.3 bn. The purchase of Orange is still subject to regulatory approval and the Orange Netherlands works council.
Spain will now have just four high-speed internet providers, Ya, Telefonica, Jaztel and Ono, all of which offer TV services. Ya.com was purchased from Jazztel in 2000 for €500m, though it has still to enter profitability.
