TANDBERG Television will supply Maltacom with its native IP head-end platform for the Maltese telco’s new DTT service. The system is scheduled for full completion later this year, with the entire head-end and monitoring systems being commissioned at TANDBERG Television’s UK facilities in Southampton before being shipped to the Maghtab facility in Malta.
“Our future plans include other delivery networks and service types, and the combination of the TANDBERG iPlex platform and EN5720 encoders gives us the greatest ability to re-purpose content for new platforms”, Joseph Bugeja, group technical director of Maltacom Group, said in a statement.
The system is designed to scale and to expand to support the introduction of new services such as mobile TV and IPTV in the future.
Maltacom already offers an IPTV service following its acquisition of rival Multiplus in February and is preparing to upgrade its technical capabilities, thereby allowing it to extend the IPTV service to the whole of the island.
