BSkyB has filed a request with the Berliner Landgericht (the Berlin district court) for an injunction against Premiere to stop them from using the name Premiere Sky. The News Corp company argues it violates BSkyB’s trademark protection. It has registered the Sky name across Europe as a television brand, so it looks like a strong case for BSkyB, once itself a shareholder in Premiere.
Premiere Sky is the name of the new DTH platform from Premiere where will offer up to 20 channels on the Astra satellite. Just last week the operator signed the first distribution deal with Turner Broadcasting System for three channels.
