Spain’s dominant cable operator ONO added over 100,000 ‘revenue generating units’ (RGUs) in the first quarter. As of March 31, 2007, the company recorded 1,847,000 subscribers and has subsequently passed 1.9 million residential subscribers for the first time. The number of customer additions is twice that of the same period in 2006.
“Our continued effort of acquiring new customers through steady development of our network, with more than 100,000 homes released to marketing added in the quarter, allowed us to increase our customer base to more than 1.9 million residential direct access customers,” said Richard Alden, chief executive officer of ONO.
Almost two in three customers now subscribe to one of ONO’s broadband packages. However, ARPU (Average Revenue per Unit) slipped to €50.8 from €52.7 in the first quarter of 2006.
ONO recorded an annualised EBITDA of €592 million, compared to €525m in Q1 2006. Revenues declined slightly to €402m from €420m, but losses halved to €13m from €22m.
