Revenues at Telenor’s pay-TV operation Canal Digital increased in the first quarter of 2007 to NOK1,396 million (€171.88m) from NOK1,251m one year ago. While the actual number of DTH subscribers only increased by 1,000, there has been increased demand for the Multiroom product. The number of cable TV subscribers increased by 4,000 and the number of subscribers taking cable TV internet access.
As of March 31, the number of DTH pay-TV subscribers was 944,000, while the number of cable TV subscribers was 700,000.
However, EBITDA in the Canal Digital Group decreased to NOK170m from NOK234m as a result of higher content costs and increased costs related to CRM and sales and marketing.
As a whole, Telenor Broadcast recorded a revenue increase of 12%, Q1 revenues reaching NOK1,700 million. EBITDA of NOK375m was down from NOK 408 million in the first quarter of 2006.
