Polish public broadcaster TVP is gearing up for the launch of its latest thematic channel – TVP Historia – on the country’s Constitution Day (May 3) later this week. A free-to-air (FTA) service, it will be distributed by Astra and is likely to be offered by a number of cable operators. Aside from its two national, one regional and one international channels, TVP already operates the thematic services TVP Kultura and TVP Sport. It also has a licence for, but has yet to launch, a further, entertainment-based channel named TVP Rozrywka and is expected to set up its own DTH platform, in competition with the existing Cyfrowy Polsat, Cyfra+ and n, perhaps as soon as later this year.
