The BBC Trust has announced it is to run a Public Value Test on proposals by the BBC Executive to run a permanent high definition television channel.
The Public Value Test will begin on Monday May 21, when documentation on the service will be published, along with the terms of reference for Ofcom’s Market Impact Assessment and a timetable for the process. It seems unlikely that the corporation would put a project up for the public value test if it did not think that it would eventually be granted approval.
A final decision is expected by November 28, 2007.
The trial status of BBC HD has meant that there are few on-air references to the channel, even though it sits at the top of the HD line-up on the Sky EPG.
