The Serbian public broadcaster RTS collected some €50 million in TV licence fees in 2006. At the same time, it posted €24.5 million in ad revenues. Although RTS spent €1.7 million on music production, €2.6 million on broadcasting equipment and had other costs, it still ended the year in the black. Receiver licence fees have been paid on a monthly basis since December 2005, with the state owned power utility Elektroprivreda Srbije (EPS) collecting the money through electricity bills. The number of households paying them fell by 400,000 to 2.5 million in 2006. RTS is planning to cut its workforce of almost 4,000 staff and 500 freelance employees by 1,000 in the next two months.
