According to local reports, the Slovak Telecom Office (TU SR) feels the country’s Digital Broadcasting Law, which was amended as recently as last week (April 18), should be changed yet again. In its view, the timetable for the transition to digital broadcasting, due to be completed in 2012, is unrealistic. It is also critical of the fact that the law prevents new DTT channels from entering the market for a long time and does not stop existing broadcasters from applying for financial compensation. DTT trials have been under way in Slovakia for some time, being undertaken by T-Com in Bratislava and Banska Bystrica and Telecom Corp. in Kosice. The country is eventually likely to have up to four multiplexes.
