According to local reports, Peter Dvorak, the general director of TV Nova, has said that the Czech national commercial station could eventually launch up to five HDTV channels. Although there is still no end in sight to the dispute about digital TV licences awarded to six lesser-known companies last year and their subsequent withdrawal following protests from (amongst others) TV Nova, TV Nova is likely to be granted more than one digital licence in “compensation” for its analogue licence, valid until 2017. Dvorak added that TV Nova, which is owned by the US investment company CME, plans to invest CZK700 million (€25 million) on DTT technology in 2007/8.
