Norwegian cable operator Get has chosen Cisco’s IP Next Generation Network as part of an upgrade of its plant. Get, the former UPC Norway, has also become only the second cable operator in Europe to deploy the deploy Cisco EuroDOCSIS 3.0 downstream channel-bonding technology.
Existing hardware within Get’s headends is being replaced with Cisco uBR10012 Universal Broadband Router Cable Modem Termination Systems (CMTS). The upgrade supports the delivery of broadband services to some 380,000 Norwegian homes.
Rolf Bive, chief technology officer, Get said the upgrade was needed to keep pace with the demand for both upstream and downstream broadband traffic, brought about by the rise of HDTV, on demand video and the sharing of video content. “We found Cisco to have the most comprehensive technology roadmap to support the new EuroDOCSIS 3.0 standard and this will help us develop our network to deliver maximum benefit to our customers,” he said.
