Xie, the joint venture between Dutch incumbent telecom operator KPN and Endemol, is rolling out its first thematic digital channel called Planet Prime. The channel will offer ‘gold’ programming from the archives of Endemol and will be available via DTT operator Digitenne, the KPN IPTV service Mine and as a web TV stream.
The channel is available as part of the premium Tele 2 soccer subscription (€6 a month) on Digitenne and will transmit outside the hours when live soccer is broadcast. KPN will also offer Planet Prime on its IPTV service Mine, but no pricing details have been issued. Planet Prime is also available as an online stream, viewing costs €3.30 for a 24 hour period. The channel will mainly act as a showcase for the on-demand programming from Xie.
On-demand programmes will be available for viewing on Mine and as online streams with prices starting at €2.20 per viewing session. The programmes will be offered under various thematic brands, including Planet Drama, Planet Crime, Planet Series, Planet Quiz, Planet Zoo and more. Xie also plans to roll out the service on other platforms including mobile TV.
