Digital rollout in Austria continues according to schedule, according to ORS, the company responsible for the transmitter network. Before the summer the cities of Innsbruck, Salzburg and Linz will only have DTT transmitters on air and no more analogue coverage. On May 7 the analogue transmitter serving Innsbruck will be switched off, followed on June 4th by the cities of Salzburg and Linz. After the summer the other regional capitals will also become “all digital”.
Three weeks before the final switch-off all analogue transmitters will carry a scroll bar announcing the upcoming end of analogue transmissions. “This has worked very well in the city of Bregenz and environs,” said Michael Wagenhofer, managing director of the Digitales Fernsehen Förder GmbH (DFF), the ORS subsidiary that controls the digital network, “Everyone who sees the scroll bar knows what he has to do.”
