UPC plans an almost four-fold increase in the Internet access speeds it offers in the Czech Republic from the beginning of April. As a result, they will now start at 2Mbit/s, allowing the company to compete more effectively with ADSL providers such as Telefonica O2. The combined UPC/Karneval operation currently has 200,000 Internet customers, while Telefonica O2 ended 2006 with 405,000 residential ADSL subscribers, equivalent to 86.2% of the total Czech ADSL market. The telco’s IPTV service O2 TV, which is modelled on Imagenio in Spain, meanwhile had 15,600 subscribers as of December 31, 2006.
