Premiere chairman Georg Kofler has said the new Premiere Sky bouquet might run on SES-Astra’s technical pay TV platform entavio. “Constructive talks” are now going on.
German pay-TV operator Premiere will launch a bouquet exclusive to DTH under the name Premiere Sky on September 1. The package will contain both existing and new channels. The new company is wholly owned by Premiere and will be headed by Wolfram Winter, who until recently was CEO of the proposed pay TV platform Stargate.
Current Premiere subscribers can easily upgrade their subscription by calling a special hotline, after which their card will be switched on in seconds. Premiere has currently 1.7 million DTH households. The total potential for Sky Premiere are the 16.7 million satellite households in Germany and a further 1.8 million in Austria. The service will use the Nagravision encryption system. Kofler expects to have over 1 million Premiere Sky subscribers by 2010.
