A consortium made up of the incumbent Serbian telco Telekom Srbija and the Dutch company Ogalar has been awarded a licence to introduce a wireless Internet service in Montenegro. Its bid of €1.5 million came ahead of several others headed by Broadband Montenegro (BMM), Bulgaria’s Nexcom and T-Mobile. Meanwhile in Croatia, the country’s leading mobile company Vipnet has launched Europe’s first High Speed Packet Access (HSPA) network. It will offer customers in Split, Rijeka and the capital, Zagreb, Internet access speeds of up to 7.2Mbps, or faster than that currently provided by ADSL. Vipnet is a wholly owned subsidiary of Mobilkom Austria and has over 1.81 million subscribers. It was the first mobile operator in Croatia to introduce TV services, offering CNN and Eurosport on the Vodafone live! 3G portal. (CD)
