LfK, the media authority of the German state of Baden-Würtenberg, has today announced the start of a new nationwide DVB-H pilot project. The authority takes responisbilty for the whole of the country and applications can be submitted until mid-April.
The launch of the new project is foreseen in the spring of 2008 and should offer 16 channels of radio, television and multimedia applications. Broadcasters, mobile operators, services and marketing companies are invited to tender. A varied and attractive offer is expected with sports, news, music, but also radio and regional programming. The authority is especially looking for new, innovative applications designed for mobile use.
In Germany one company is already offering TV services to mobile, Mobiles Fernsehen Deutschland (MFD), which uses the T-DMB standard (Digital Multimedia Broadcasting). The service is available in a number of states and costs 10 euro a month for a 4-channel package.
