Tandberg installs MPEG-4 for Inuk

March 4, 2007 21.39 Europe/London By Julian Clover

Tandberg Television is to supply a package of MPEG-4 AVC encoders and professional receivers to the Freewire IPTV service. Freewire is currently supplying a package of free-to-air digital channels to students in their halls of residence over the high speed JANET broadband network. Later this year Freewire will extend the service to the UK residential market. The company intends to target the six million UK homes that cannot currently receive digital TV services. TV will be part of a triple play offer that will also include VoIP and high speed internet.

Tandberg’s Mediaplex 20 MPEG encoders and translating modules are being installed at the Inuk headend in the Docklands alongside over TT1220 professional receivers that will be used to decode satellite and other broadcasts.
