The BBC has launched two channels on the Google-owned YouTube with a third to follow. The commercial deal is for two BBC-branded entertainment channels showing short form videos under two separate agreements with the BBC and its commercial arm BBC Worldwide.
The BBC will provide clips of new shows and specially commissioned promotional content. Actor David Tennant will take viewers around the set of Doctor Who while news correspondent Clive Myrie has been filming on the streets of Baghdad’s Red Zone.
BBC Worldwide will launch an advertising funded entertainment channel, also called BBC Worldwide, which will include clips from programmes including Top Gear, Spooks, The Catherine Tate Show, The Mighty Boosh and factual programmes featuring David Attenborough.
Around 30 news clips a day will be uploaded from international news channel BBC World.
The advertising funded elements, for which BBC Worldwide will receive a commission, will only be available outside of the UK. (JC)
