Bronislaw Wildstein, the controversial head of the Polish public broadcaster TVP, has been dismissed from his post. He has been temporarily replaced by Andrzej Urbanski, an advisor to the country’s President Lech Kaczynski, until a successor is appointed in April. Wildstein was himself a political appointee, taking over the reigns at Poland’s leading TV station in May 2006. However, he soon began to fall out with the three parties that constitute the ruling coalition, and at the same time failed to convince in his new role. TVP currently finds itself in a period of transition. It has recently launched several thematic channels, along with an interactive TV service, and is expected to give a debut to a DTH platform later this year. (CD)
