The Telekom Slovenije subsidiary Ipko Net has secured a wireless operator licence in Kosovo. Although recently awarded to the highest bidder Kosmocell, a company backed by the US’s Computer Science Corp, it was subsequently withdrawn following Kosmocell’s failure to pay for the licence within 14 days. Ipkonet will now be required to pay €75 million within a similar period of time, otherwise the licence will pass into the hands of Austria’s Mobitel. Ipko Net is already the leading provider of broadband Internet services in Kosovo, with over 1,700 business and 2,000 residential customers. It also offers an Internet/TV package known as Duo in the capital, Pristina, that includes 50 TV channels. (CD)
