The Dutch digital DTH provider Canal Digitaal has reported that it added 100,000 new subscribers in 2006, reaching a net total of just over 700,000. The last quarter of 2006 was particularly good for the platform due to the switch-off of all analogue Dutch terrestrial broadcasts in early December. The addition of nine regional public broadcasters also proved to be a boost.
In the past few weeks a number of new channels have been added to Canal Digitaal’s line up. They include the regional commercial channel RNN7 from the city of Rotterdam and the combined channel Nickelodeon/The Box following Tien (formerly Talpa) becoming a full-time channel.
In the coming year the platform hopes to add NASN and Boomerang to its line-up. On April 1 it will also add Film1.3, thereby increasing to three the number of Film1 channels – the same as available in cable – in its movie bouquet.
