Norway continues to be a happy hunting ground for Canal Digital. The pay-TV platform added 37,000 new DTH subscribers in the final quarter of 2006, primairily in its home market, and a further 15,000 cable subscribers. As of December 31, 2006, Canal Digital had 943,000 DTH subscribers, in Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Finland, and 696,000 cable subscribers. Unlike neighbouring Sweden, where the digital switchover process is already underway, Norway will not commence even commercial DTT transmissions until the autumn.
Telenor’s Broadcast division recorded growth of 13% compared to the fourth quarter of 2006, based on strong new sales and 14 new contracts within the content protection division Conax, and good performances at transmission company Norkring and Telenor Satellite Broadcasting. Fouth quarter EBITDA in the division was NKr260 million (€32.17m). (JC)
