Digital Media Technologies (DMT) has expressed an interest in the purchase of rival transmission company Telecom Italia’s tower business. DMT chairman and CEO Alessandro Falciai said he was looking to close a “big deal” before the end of 2007 adding that he would not rule out the possibility of acquiring the tower business through a joint venture with a third party. Falciai has previously put his name forward in connection with the purchase of towers from RAI Way, Wind and 3.
DMT, which has built its name on the rollout of digital TV transmission services, said that it would be willing to invest over €1 billion into the tower business.
The 11,000 television and telephony transmission towers owned by Telecom Italia dwarf the 1,000 owned by DMT. (JC)
