100+ complaints over Sky cable promos

February 14, 2007 11.22 Europe/London By Julian Clover

Customers protesting at BSkyB’s call to action on the possible withdrawal of its channels from the Virgin Media platform have sent more than 100 complaints to the Advertising Standards Authority. The promotions have been carried on the dedicated cable feeds of BSkyB’s channels, including Sky One, Sky News and Sky Travel, amid heated negotiations over their carriage on the Virgin cable network.

The current contract between BSkyB and Virgin Media is believed to be worth in the region of £30 million per year. However, BSkyB is arguing for an increase because of the investment it says has been made in programming.
