TV4 Sweden is adding a high definition service to its stable of digital TV channels. The new station will be distributed via Canal Digital and launches later this first quarter. Next year the channel will screen HD coverage of the European football championships. Earlier this month Canal+ added Canal+ Sport HD to its existing Canal+ Film HD channel.
TV4 has launches a series of digital channels over the past few years. Digital switchover will see the main channel lose its monopoly as Sweden’s only officially sanctioned commercial broadcaster.
TV4 Plus now reaches around 74% of all households while TV4 Film is now available to 1.6 million subscribers. TV4 Anytime is Sweden’s largest VOD provider and offers a selection of TV4 programmes and 700 films from the Swedish distributor SF Anytime.
Reporting its 2006 financials, TV4 declared profits of SKr395 million (€43.4m), up from SKr262m in 2005.
