The Bulgarian incumbent telco BTC has posted a profit of Leva130.4 million (€67.2 million) for 2006, or 15% more than in the previous year. Its ADSL subscriber total at the end of 2006 meanwhile stood at 90,000. The results are made disappointing by the performance of BTC’s mobile company Vivatel, which saw its losses almost triple to Leva168.5 million in 2006 despite continued expansion of the network. Although BTC plans to invest Leva400 million in upgrading its infrastructure this year, doubts over its future ownership persist. Late last month it was reported that Novator, which is owned by the Icelandic entrepreneur Thor Bjorgolfsson, may sell its 65% stake in the telco.(CD)
