The Broadcasting Commission of Ireland has advertised for expressions of interest in a new community television licence for Cork City and County. Advertisements have been placed in the national press. The service will be given must carry status on local cable and MMDS systems. The closing date for applications is March 26, 2007.
Separately, Dublin’s Channel 6 has agreed carriage on Sky Digital giving the broadcaster an additional 465,020 homes in the Republic. Earlier this month Channel 6 called for legislation giving priority to Irish broadcasters on Electronic Programme Guides.
