Portuguese cable operator TV Cabo has launched a triple play service encompassing fixed line telephony, high speed Internet and TV. The PT Multimedia-owned company is investing between €50 million and €60 million in the new service.
The triple play offer has been put in place following last year’s deployment of Sigma Systems’ All Play OSS system.
Parent company Portugal Telecom is planning to spin off the PT Multimedia division as part of a plan to fend off the attentions of its smaller rival SonaeCom. The €11.1 billion bid last month cleared the final regulatory hurdle when Portugal’s stock market commission approved the takeover.
Assuming the takeover goes ahead, SonaeCom will be required to dispose of one of its two mobile telephony licences.
TV Cabo boasts 1.4 million subscribers. (JC)
