The incumbent Czech telco Telefónica O2 is preparing to introduce a self-install option for its IPTV service. Launched in September 2006, O2 TV, which already has 18,000 subscribers, can currently take over two weeks to receive after the placement of an order. It competes directly with the cable industry, which is dominated by UPC/Karneval, and will soon also have to contend with rival IPTV services operated by – amongst others – the transmission company Radiokomunikace (CRa) and alternative telcos GTS Novera and Czech on Line. Meanwhile in Slovakia, fears are growing of a politically inspired clampdown at the public broadcaster STV. The year has started with its new director Radim Hreha dismissing a number of key personnel. (CD)
