At the CES in Las Vegas Philips unveiled two portable DVD players which do not only play back DVDs, but also feature iPod video integration. Philips’ DCP line for portable video entertainment provides a docking station that shows videos from iPod in widescreen.
“A fierce demand for portable entertainment is leading to a wide convergence of products,” said Andy Mintz, senior vice president of marketing, Philips Consumer Electronics, North America.
“The new DCP line merges the compact storage of a video iPod with the large-screen experience of a portable DVD player. Add in the memory-card function and it becomes the most versatile of playback devices.” These entertainment stations come with car adapters; the docking station also charges an iPod while viewing.
The two players, DCP750 and DCP850 will be available in the USA in the first quarter of 2007 at a suggested retail price of $149 and $199 respectively.
