Liberty Global has completed the take-over of the Czech Republic’s second largest MSO Karneval. The €322.5 million deal, which was first announced last August and subsequently investigated by the Czech Anti-Monopoly Office (UOHS), creates a company with around 600,000 cable TV, 200,000 broadband Internet and 15,000 VoIP customers, along with some 120,000 receiving the UPC Direct DTH service. Integration of Karneval, whose name will gradually be phased out, with UPC’s existing operations in the Czech Republic is likely to take up to 18 months. Separately, the Czech IT ministry has opened two tenders, worth a total of CZK11.5 billion (€417.3 million), for the provision of voice and data services to state institutions. CD
