The strong marketing power of Dutch incumbent KPN is starting to hurt subscriber numbers at the country’s largest cable nets, UPC and Ziggo.

Liberty Global plans to launch 500 Mbps products in both the Netherlands and Switzerland by the end of the year, according to Mike Fries, the company’s president and CEO.
UPC Nederland is adding three new HD channels to its line-up, Syfy HD, 13th Street HD and TLC HD, bringing the total to 32 HD channels on the network.
Canal Digital Danmark is adding two more HD channels at the end of April, Eurosport 2 HD and Travel Channel HD. This will bring the platform’s total HD channels to over 20. Eurosport 2′s programming includes live Bundesliga matches from Germany.
France 24 is launching on Virgin Media with both English and French versions available to all of its 3.8 million customers throughout the UK as part of basic offer TV M+.

Liberty Global has acquired 25.3 million shares in Holland’s largest cable operator, Ziggo from Barclays Capital Securities Limited at €25.00 per share.

Hungary’s fixed broadband market continues to be dominated by three companies, with T-Home (Magyar Telekom), UPC and Digi together accounting for around seven in 10 connections.

The number of digital TV connections in the Netherlands rose 1.8% in the fourth quarter to 6.375 million, according to Telecompaper’s quarterly Dutch television subscribers report.

The Dutch consumer broadband market grew by 0.8% or 52,800 net additions during the fourth quarter of 2012, to reach 6.59 million connections on 31 December, according to Telecompaper’s quarterly report.
