IBC 2011 – AMSTERDAM. The CI Plus common interface technology reached 100 million CI Plus device certificates as at September 1, CI Plus LLP has announced.

UPC Nederland has confirmed the launch of CI Plus in the country and set April 26 as the launch date. The news from the operator follows a premature announcement from Sony that UPC certified their 2010 and 2011 Bravia TV sets.

Sony has announced that its Bravia 2010 and 2011 models have been certified by UPC Nederland for usage with a CI Plus module and UPC smart card. So far, UPC has not issued any details about the availability of CI Plus modules for its network in the Netherlands.
Cabot Communications has launched the Robotester, a new hardware and software testing framework for DVB-enable devices including CI Plus.

The DVB Project is to take responsibility for the CI Plus common interface standard, following a recommendation from the organisation’s steering board. The vote removes one of the major concerns held by operators considering the adoption of the technology, who feared they did not have enough input on its future development.
The most recent non-proprietary video compression standard, High-Efficiency Video Codec (HEVC), also known as H.265, was placed into final draft for ratification in January 2013 and is expected to become the video standard of choice for the next decade. … [Read More...]
