The transition to digital broadcasting will affect 1.4 million homes directly in Romania.
According to ZF, that number, of which nearly 900,000 are in rural areas, will have to either start receiving cable or satellite services or buy suitable DTT reception equipment by January 1, 2012, when the country completes its transition to digital broadcasting.
The latter date is contained in proposals prepared by the Ministry of Communications (MCSI). By its estimates, 49% of Romania’s 7.5 million households currently receive cable and 27% DTH services.
A further 18% rely solely on analogue terrestrial TV and 6% cannot receive any TV signals.
