Nokia will be showing its latest technical solutions for broadband networks, focused on five key areas, at this year’s ANGA COM.
The first is access networks in the gigabit era. Nokia just recently announced a successful lab test of XG-Cable technology – invented by Nokia Bell Labs – which enables symmetrical bandwidths of 10Gbps on Hybrid Fiber Coax (HFC) cable, traditionally used by cable operators. Nokia will for the first time live demo this technology and also show its next generation copper (XG-FAST) and fiber (XGS-PON) technologies.
The second is solutions for the digital home. More and more networked devices at home mean that Wi-Fi access and new capabilities in residential gateways as well as virtual residential gateways in the Cloud are required, all of which need to be managed by the network operator.
The third is fixed-mobile convergence. With the integration of Wi-Fi and mobile technologies into their cable networks, cable operators could create a converged network infrastructure reaching out well beyond the year 2020. To maintain connectivity across hybrid access environments and support voice hand-offs, the IoT and enhanced security, operators need to invest in an evolved IP mobile Core.
The fourth is customer experience. Wi-Fi access in multiple dwelling units (MDUs) is calling for solutions which are securing service quality. Analytics-based customer care and service assurance solutions are enhancing customer satisfaction and are providing operators an opportunity for differentiation.
The fifth and final key area is IoT. The IoT is placing new requirements on networks. Experts from Bell Labs explain how network architectures and technologies will be adapting to the challenge.
