Altice has acquired the exclusive rights to the English Premier League, depriving Canal+ of one of its key assets.
The contract gives Altice – which owns the Numericable brand – exclusive broadcasting rights in France and Monaco and non-exclusive rights in Andorra, Luxembourg and Switzerland for the three seasons from 2016/17 to 2018/19.
Fixed and Mobile customers of Altice and affiliates in France and Monaco, will be able to watch live, anywhere, on any device and in 4K, all the 380 games between England’s top tier teams. The contract runs for the next three seasons, starting in August 2016.
No price has been released, but media estimates put the bill at €100 million per year for the duration of the deal.
Nicolas Rotkoff, Altice Entertainment and Sports CEO, said: “We are extremely pleased and excited to have entered into this new and long-term partnership with the Premier League, the world’s most admired football championship. This is another big step for Altice’s investment strategy to provide the best in class TV content and broadband packages to its customers across the world.”
The Premier League boasts a number of French stars such as Mamadou Sakho, Mathieu Debuchy and Francis Coquelin.
Earlier this month it was announced that beIN Sports had been awarded broadcasting rights in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region for seasons 2016/17 to 2018/19.
