Germany’s national telco Deutsche Telekom has won around 40,000 customers for its OTT subscription channel which shows all games of domestic basketball league Basketball Bundesliga (BBL) live.
The figure includes both customers subscribing to the offering as a stand-alone product for a fee as well as existing Telekom customers which are granted access without additional payment, a Telekom spokesman told Broadband TV News.
To grant non-subscribers a glimpse at the offering, Telekom will screen the BBL Allstar Game on January 10, 2015 from 20.00 CET free of charge and exclusive live on the internet at Telekombasketball.de and on its IPTV platform Entertain.
Telekom secured the BBL rights in June 2014 and has been transmitting all matches live on its platforms since the beginning of the 2014/15 season: in HD quality on Entertain as well as on PCs, tablets and smartphones.
Telekom customers with a subscription contract, for example a mobile phone tariff or ADSL broadband, and an internet flat-rate can access the offering without additional charge. All other basketball fans can sign up for €9.95 per month as part of a one-year subscription or for €14.95 per month as part of a monthly subscription.
On free-to-air TV, German sports channel Sport1 shows selected BBL games live while public broadcasters ARD, ZDF and ARD’s regional channels screen highlights.
