The Hungarian regulator NMHH has opened a public consultation into OTT services, inviting comments from market participants and stakeholders up until January 31, 2015.
In a statement, it says that although the development of a new digital ecosystem and creation of an associated regulatory environment is likely to be a long process, it has already begun. At the same time, more and more OTT services are launching in Hungary.
Questions the NMHH asks in the consultation include whether the parties agree with its definition of OTT services; what barriers to entry exist for OTT services in Hungary; what is their opinion of the EC’s proposals on net neutrality; do smart platforms find it difficult to access the Hungarian market; and should there be any changes to the Directive on Audiovisual Media Services?
Broadband TV News notes that although the OTT sector is still at an early stage in Hungary, it is believed in the local industry that Netflix plans to enter the market in the near future.
