Belgacom has signed an agreement with Neflix to bring the SVOD service directly to the Proximus TV set-top box.
The Belgian operator said the new service would become available to its customers before the end of the year. There will be two kinds of subscriptions, one for €7.99 giving access to the service on a single device and one for €8.99 allowing access on two different devices.
The new partnership is remarkable in the competition between traditional cable operators (Telenet, VOO) and the country’s largest IPTV operator. The announcement comes just days after Belgacom announced the rebranding of its consumer brands from Belgacom to Proximus.
Phillip Vandervoort, Chief Consumer Market Officer of Belgacom, said in a statement: “Netflix is ??undeniably a new player which was strongly awaited. I am proud that I can announce this partnership; it reflects the dynamism of our new brand and enables us to offer our customers a great experience Proximus TV has to offer. ”
Until now, only Virgin media in the UK and Sweden’s Com Hem have signed similar agreements with Netflix, but in these cases only via the TiVo set-top box.
