Fewer Dutch consumers are interested in subscribing to pay-TV channels, according to research by the Telecompaper Consumer Panel.
However, the number of households that already have subscriptions to channels such as HBO, Film1, Sport1, Fox Sports International or Fox Sport Eredivisie is relatively stable, writes Telecompaper.
Those who said they were (very) likely to subscribe to Fox Sports International or Fox Sports Eredivisie is stable at 2-3%. In June, 84% said they were (very) unlikely to subscriber Fox Sports International, compared to 82% six months earlier. Sport 1 saw a similar change, with only 2% likely to take subscription compared to 3% six months ago.
The picture was the same for the film channels HBO and Film1. 3% are already subscribed to HBO and 4% to Film1. Another 3% said they are (very) likely to subscribe to HBO and 2% to Film1.
It’s unclear how yet how much an impact the increasing number of OTT video options are having on the Dutch pay-TV market.
According to the Telecompaper Consumer Panel, 7% of the Dutch had access to Netflix in the second quarter, while 3% used the T-VOD service Pathe Thuis and 1% S-VOD portal Videoland Unlimited.
